Gerald Irwin. A 27-year veteran of the Coral Springs Police Department and currently serves as the Captain of the Department’s Training Unit and 23 School Resource Officers.
On February 14, 2018, he helped direct the Department’s Road Patrol response to the Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School shooting and was tasked with participating in a small group of Command Staff members, leading the department through the aftermath of this horrific event. Captain Irwin has identified policies, training, and best practices for organizations to implement before, during, and after critical incidents with an emphasis on prevention and liability mitigation.
He has presented these policies and practices throughout the country to law enforcement organizations, colleges and universities, and emergency management associations. Captain Irwin provides firsthand experience of active shooter incidents and has implemented policies and training that saves lives and reduces liability.
